Upcomming bug fixes / improvements

Postby shavas » Wed Jan 06, 2010 1:13 am

Hi Serge.

Just wondering what you are focusing on fixing at the moment.

Their are several issues that are really starting to become troublesome for us using your software.

1) Bandwidth Management. This is a fairly major cost issue for us. We have restirced peoples overall bandwidth via a proxy, but people still can use alot of data , and we simply cant bill for it at the moment as we dont route traffic via the true cafe server (so many reasons why this is not viable for us). This fearture needs to be recorded at the client and sent to the server not just the server processing it all.

2) CD key reservations. During our tournaments and busy periods this is a nightmare to manage. Stuck keys / unreleased keys cuases havoc (PLEASE implement a steam process check and kill option). We have to reboot machines / manually release keys etc. I have made posts about this issue before and it seems to be a fairly striat forward fix that i really think should have some priority.

Anyways if other people have some issues that they want to mention it would be great to here about them. I know as a software developer we all ways like to add new features but if the clients want bug fixes we as the clients should speak up. This is not a negative post but a constructive issues / feedback to help prioritise some issues that serge might want to look at before implementing any new features to the product.

Hello Shavas,

Thank you for your efforts towards improving our software!

Not sure about the bandwidth management feature, but we're going to address the CD-key issue in February. I hope you'll help us testing new version then.

Regards,
Serge.

The bandwidth measurement feature needs to be client side. Surely the code can be adapted to run on the client and not the server. Their are 100's of pieces of code in existance to meausre b/w in existance. Essentially the model you have works for wireless connections but not for general use. It will probably for us be 1 area that will mean we will have to change software. For us bandwidth is expensive. We need to control it somehow and other cafe software has client based measurement not server based.

Some issues for me
  • Printer watcher controls all printers, rather than selected.
  • Remote launch doesn't allocate key/serial numbers.
  • Keys not always released (Steam and others)
  • 64 Bit NDIS Driver signing
  • Wireless billing (no login prompt or console status) under 64bit
  • TAX on receipts for prepaid internet time

Hello Rob,

Thank you for your request!

We're going to start working on all these features in February, maybe except the last "tax" issue, which I don't know how we can easily implement yet.

Anyway, will be thinking on this meanwhile...

Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Regards,
Serge.

Hey Serge,

With regards to Rob's request regarding the Tax. I thought it would be easy if we could adjust the ticket that is printed for a customer in a similar way you can adjust the Receipt.

That way those who need it could just add a line "Tax Invoice" with the required details they need for their respective countries. That way when a customer receives a ticket they receive an invoice at the same time.

Hello Sam,

Excuse me, do you mean to add the tax info on the ticket layout?

Regards,
Serge.

Hi Surge,

Yes, that way when you print a ticket, the Receipt / Tax Invoice is all done in one.

This should probably be optional.

Hello Sam,

Not sure it's enough just to print some static "tax" text on a ticket. The program should also be able to calculate correct tax amounts and display them in reports, etc. This won't solve the problem actually.

Serge.

Actually I think that is probably a good idea Sammy.

If the layout had an option to simply add a field or line with text and a basic % calc of the total, that would suffice.

For us, I would just add a line GST inc. at 10%. Very simple indeed and removal all the other TAX calculations.

This then would avoid the massive required of the internals and it would integrate into the existing layout without confusing other users.

Hello Rob,

What exact text message would you add on your ticket layout? Is it just "GST inc. at 10%"?

Regards,
Serge.
